LUDLOW - The
town is expected
to decide
whether to
approve a
proposed
nine-hole golf
course for the
Jackson Gore
resort at
Okemo by the
end of next
month.
The town's
development
review board
held a hearing
on the proposal
March 12, and
staff said it
would take the
board about 45
days to issue
its decision.
According to the
Act 250 land use
permit
application, the
course would
cover 14 acres.
A par-3
course, the
intent is that
golfers can
introduce their
children to the
game, and to
attract youth
golf leagues.
Regular golfers
will be allowed
to use it as a
practice course,
according to the
application.
The course will
be located
between Jackson
Gore's parking
lots to the west
of Route 103. A
single-story
building
currently used
for office space
will be
renovated to
serve as a
clubhouse.
About half an
acre will be set
aside as an
irrigation
storage pond
close to four
feet deep and
capable of
storing 364,000
gallons of water
that will be
tied into the
snowmaking
operation and
get its water
from the
existing
snowmaking
reservoir.
Also included in
the proposal is
a
20-foot-by-90-foot
storage shed
next to the
existing ice
rink; it will be
used to store
the equipment
needed to
maintain the
golf course, as
well as the ice
rink's Zamboni.
An Act 250
decision on the
proposal still
is pending. If
all approvals
are granted, the
project will
take about two
years to
complete.
